Before coming to Cambridge Alona graduated with distinction from the Institute of International Relations of Kiev, Ukraine and was also a research student in Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne University.  She completed a Masters in of Law (LLM), specializing in International Law at the University of Cambridge.  During her spare time at Cambridge, she was a Member of the Committee of the Graduate Law Society, Entertainments Officer of Trinity Hall MCR, the Cambridge University Ukrainian Society and the Cambridge University Gliding Club.

Alona was awarded a Pegasus placement which she took up at the end of her LLM during which she was a scholar of the Inns of Court and was a pupil in 1 Pump Court Chambers, Blackstone Chambers, 3 New Square Chambers and Southwark Crown Court with His Honor Judge Pegden.  She was also an assistant in London Waterloo Free Legal Advice Centre.
