New scholarships for Ukrainian MPhil students

The prominent businessman Dmitry Firtash has extended his support of Ukrainian studies at the University of Cambridge, with the creation of a scholarship scheme for Ukrainian applicants for Masters courses.

From 2011 the Cambridge-Ukraine Studentship programme will offer five full-cost scholarships to Ukrainian postgraduates in the fields of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.

Two years ago Mr Firtash made a donation to the University to help establish Cambridge Ukrainian Studies, based within the University's Department of Slavonic Studies.  A further benefaction in 2010 made possible the permanent establishment of two key academic posts central to the initiative: a Lecturer in Ukrainian Studies and a Lector in Ukrainian Language.

Applicants for the Cambridge-Ukraine Studentships are encouraged to read the further information, and should apply, via the University's Board of Graduate Studies, before the end of February 2011.
