Welcome for new Trust scholars

On Saturday 12 October, the Trust hosted its annual Welcome Event for all those scholars it supports who are commencing their studies this academic year.

The Trust made 601 awards this year to students of outstanding academic merit, and 370 of those scholars were in attendance, representing seventy-four countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

With the support of a wide range of scholarships – the Trust this year offered awards in the name of 179 different scholarships, illustrating the breadth of the partners with whom the Trust collaborates – these students will be undertaking degree courses at the University of Cambridge in a wide range of subjects, from Advanced Chemical Engineering to Zoology.

The event was this year held for the first time in the new Student Services Centre, officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Toope, on 14 May this year.  The Trust relocated to the Centre on 1 July to join the myriad of University student service teams who work in the building, providing frontline support to students.

Helen Pennant, the Trust’s Director, congratulated the students on having been successful in winning scholarships, particularly as the Trust, which provides the largest number of scholarships at Cambridge, receives in the region of 4,000 applications each year.
