Charles and Lisa Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences
A generous donation to the University from the Charles and Lisa Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences enabled a three-year programme of scholarships for Hungarian students on PhD courses in any subject, entitled the Simonyi Cambridge Scholarship.
Charles Simonyi is a Hungarian-American computer software executive who, as head of Microsoft's application software group, oversaw the creation of Microsoft's flagship Office suite. He now heads his own company, Intentional, which aims to develop and market his concept of intentional programming. He is known for his philanthropic support of many organisations, particularly in the field of higher education, as well as for his two journeys into space, including visits to the International Space Station.
