Santander’s banking history stretches back over 150 years. Today the Santander Group has over 14,750 branches, more than any other international bank, and over 125 million customers worldwide.

One deeply held belief at Santander is that investing in Higher Education and research is the most powerful means of promoting the development and prosperity of society. The Santander Universities network was launched in 1996 and implemented in countries in which the bank had a presence. Through the network, Santander supports areas such as teaching and research, international cooperation, knowledge and technology transfer, entrepreneurial initiatives, student mobility and innovation. It continues to be the cornerstone of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, and agreements have been signed to invest in Higher Education in over 1,180 academic institutions in 20 countries.

Santander Universities funds a number of initiatives in Cambridge - one item is the co-funding, with the Cambridge Trust, of Santander Cambridge Scholarships, which are available to Master's applicants in any subject.
