Chevening/Cambridge Scholarship

The Chevening/Cambridge Scholarship is available to Masters applicants from all Chevening eligible countries. 

The scholarship is tenable at any College of the University of Cambridge and in any subject, excluding premium rate courses.

Offered in partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office / Chevening.

Value

  • University tuition fee (international rate)
  • Annual maintenance (sufficient for a single person)
  • Student visa
  • Student Immigration Health Surcharge
  • Return airfare (economy class)
  • Allowance package:
    • Arrival allowance
    • Events and engagement travel allowance
    • Homeward departure allowance

Conditions

  • Applicants must:
    • Demonstrate the potential to rise to positions of leadership and influence. They will need to demonstrate that they possess the personal, intellectual and interpersonal attributes reflecting this potential
    • Hold a degree that is equivalent to at least a good UK second-class honours degree
    • Have completed at least two years' work, or equivalent experience, by the end of September in the year prior to the academic year for which the scholarship applies (e.g. by September 2022 for courses starting from September 2023)
    • Have not already received or be receiving financial benefit from an HMG funded scholarship
    • Not hold dual nationality where one nationality is British (other than for nationals exempt from this requirement listed in the Chevening Guidance for Applicants)
    • Not be employees (including interns), employees' relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than two years before) of His Majesty’s Government including the FCDO (including FCDO Posts), the British Council, MOD, BEIS, DIT and UKVI, the Association of Commonwealth Universities or the Cambridge Trust or the University Cambridge or any of their wholly-owned subsidiaries.
  • Successful applicants must show intention to return to the country they were selected from at the end of the period of study
  • This scholarship is not available for the following courses:
    • Master of Business (MBA)
    • Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA)
    • Global Executive Master of Business Administration (Global EMBA)
    • Master of Finance (MFin)
    • Master of Accounting (MAcc)

How to apply

To ensure that they are considered for this scholarship, applicants must follow both of the following steps:

  1. check with Chevening the funding call deadlines and details of the application process, and apply accordingly; AND
  2. apply for admission to the University of Cambridge by the funding deadline specific to their course (please refer to the Postgraduate Course Directory)

Foreign & Commonwealth Office / Chevening

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office is the UK government department responsible for promoting British interests overseas, and supporting British citizens and businesses around the globe.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the FCDO and partner organisations. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding students with leadership potential, to take one-year Masters courses at UK universities. There are around 46,000 Chevening Alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly-regarded global network.

Chevening Scholarships are for talented professionals who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields, including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion and academia. Applicants should be high-calibre graduates with the personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership. Chevening Scholarships are available to students from more than 160 countries and territories worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU).
