The Beacon Equity Trust

The Beacon Equity Trust provides scholarships for especially gifted school children; the vision is to provide access to local world-class schools for talented children who in the future will have the confidence and ability to become leaders in their chosen fields in their home countries. The Beacon Trust started its programme in Kenya and has recently expanding the programme to include Tanzania and Uganda.

Scholars are chosen after a rigorous selection process and receive close mentoring throughout their scholarship. Awards are made on the strength of many factors, including academic performance, achievement in sport, music or drama, social influence and communication, and citizenship. Scholars' parents or guardians are expected to play an active part in the progress of Beacon Scholars.

Since 2015 the Trust has also co-funded, with the Cambridge Trust, an annual scholarship for an undergraduate student at the University of Cambridge, the Beacon Scholarship at Cambridge. This is awarded to an applicant for any BA degree (of up to 4 years' duration) who demonstrates leadership potential.
