Welcoming Mexican scholars to Cambridge through a 15-year partnership with BecasMOB

Our Director Helen Pennant has been in Mexico where she personally awarded two scholarships to students who will be coming to Cambridge this autumn, supported by the Brockmann Cambridge Scholarship.
The event took place in Guadalajara, at the headquarters of our partner BecasMob who support Mexican students to study for Master’s degrees and with whom the Trust has a 15-year partnership.
Our warmest congratulations to the two students selected for this prestigious scholarship:
Cecilia Avila Perez from Monterey, who will undertake a Masters degree in Public Policy as a member of Corpus Christi College.
Alan Alexei Diaz Morales from Leon, Guanajuato who will undertake his Masters in Sustainable Cities as a member of Peterhouse.
My time at Cambridge will be a key to enable me to contribute to Mexican society.
Both Cecilia and Alan spoke about the important opportunity that the scholarship represented for them. Both had dreamt of coming to Cambridge since a young age and had never thought their dreams would become reality.
Cecilia explained that she was very driven by a commitment to give back, which is very much in tune with the ethos of both BecasMOB and the Cambridge Trust.
The chance to study for a Master’s will help me contribute to solving water shortage problems in Mexico.

These two awards bring the total number of students from Mexico who have been supported with a Brockmann Cambridge Scholarship since our partnership began to 14. They have studied for Master’s degrees in a broad range of subjects, from Finance, Law, and Development Studies to Bioscience Enterprise, Technology Policy, and Machine Learning and Machine Intelligence.

Helen addressed the assembled friends and families, congratulating Cecilia and Alan for being selected for the scholarship.
“Mexican students make an important contribution to expanding perspectives at Cambridge, and through our partnership with BecasMOB we have seen the power of scholarships transform lives and bring real benefits to society.”
She also announced the renewal of the partnership, commenting "the Trust is looking forward to our further collaboration to enable Mexican students to come to Cambridge, and we look forward to welcoming Cecila and Alan when they join us this autumn.
