Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation
The Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation has been supporting indigenous Australian students for over 25 years.
It is named after Roberta 'Bobbi' Sykes, the first black Australian to graduate from an American university, who worked throughout her life to encourage the development of high educational aspirations in the indigenous community and to facilitate goals which had previously been described as 'overly ambitious', such as postgraduate study at world-renowned universities.
The Foundation co-funds, with Cambridge Australia Scholarships and the Cambridge Trust, the Roberta Sykes Cambridge Scholarship, which is available to Australian students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who apply to take a Master's or PhD degree in any subject.
A separate external application is required for this scholarship
To ensure that they are considered for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Check with the Roberta Sykes Foundation the funding call deadlines and details of the application process, and apply accordingly; and
- Apply for admission to the University of Cambridge by the funding deadline specific to their course
